You should be able to explain the content of your topic in an understandable way in no more than ten minutes. In order to make the content comprehensible to an audience with no background in the subject, it is important to explain technical terms and use images and metaphors to illustrate your content.
In addition to the purely scientific aspects, a science slam presentation should also include elements of entertainment. Therefore, we would like to ask you to make your presentation as varied as possible and maybe try to make your audience laugh!
Judging by our experience it might make sense to vary the media during the presentation by using, for example, pictures, texts, film excerpts, animations or objects that illustrate your points. If you like, you can even sing a song or dress up to illustrate your topic. However, you as a presenter should always remain in the centre of the audience’s attention and only use media that provide real added value in terms of content or entertainment.
Tips for a successful application
Please let us know with your application why you would like to take part at the GFFA Science Slam and why your subject fits this year’s GFFA topic “Farming a Sustainable Bioeconomy”.
You should apply with your own research topic and not a general topic that your institution is working on. The topic should be clearly outlined, and the research motivation, methods used and desired output should be defined. The topic should be suitable to be presented in a concise and entertaining way.
Please show us that you have a clear concept on how you want to present your research subject and describe your creative ideas on how you want to charm and entertain your audience.
