Terms for participation:
- The competition is open to all interested young scientists – students, doctoral researchers, junior scientists and postdocs. We welcome applicants of all nationalities and all fields of research, including scientists from universities, research institutions, the private sector or any other related area of work.
- Your slam presentation should be in English and should be max. 10 minutes.
- If your application is successful, you will also participate at the Innovation Forum on 16 and 17 January 2025 and present your research subject to the visitors of the exhibition. You will need to prepare and submit a poster about your research subject for the Innovation Forum. (Criteria for the poster will be shared with you once your GFFA Science Slam participation is confirmed.)
- Successful applicants will also be asked to join two online meetings in November and/or December 2024 (an introduction meeting & slam coaching).
- Note: The Innovation Forum and the GFFA Science Slam are in-person events. You must be willing and able to travel to Berlin. (Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered.)
The BMEL will assess applications according to the following criteria:
- The suitability of the research subject for the theme of the 2025 GFFA: “Farming a Sustainable Bioeconomy”.
- The quality, comprehensibility and logical consistency of the presentation concept.
- The likely entertainment factor of the presentation (e.g. presentation style, story line and use of media).
- We look forward to receiving applications from scientists of all genders and from different institutions, nationalities and countries. In order to promote diversity, these aspects will also be considered during the assessment procedure.
Schedule
- 29 October 2024: deadline for applying for the GFFA Science Slam
- End of November 2024: notification of your participation
- End of November / Early December 2024: online digital introduction meeting
- Mid-December 2024: publishing of slammers’ names and presentation topics on the GFFA website
- Mid-December 2024: online digital meeting including a science slam coaching course
- Early January 2025: deadline for submitting your final poster for the Innovation Forum
- 16 January 2025: poster presentations at the Innovation Forum in Berlin
- 17 January 2025: poster presentations at the Innovation Forum & live science slam in Berlin
